Hay fever

I used to look on sufferers of hay fever with a mild, disconnected pity but now I am one and it’s the saddest bloody thing in the world. Here it is spring, the sap of the world is rising, and you want to be smelling the plum blossoms and the moisture in the air but your head is, as someone says in a David Foster Wallace book, a brick of snot.

It’s like someone’s filled my head with self-raising flour, sprinkled on some water, and screwed my skull down tight.

Although it’s perhaps too late for you this time, a homeopathic preventative for allergies and hay fever that has good results and isn’t too disgusting is a teaspoon of local honey taken daily. Start now and stave off the next wave of pollen-induced hell.

A sinusitis spray might be useful. I never suffered from hay fever until last summer; the spray worked wonders for me.

And by the way, congrats on the Bloggies win. Sure, it’s all self-congratulatory nonsense, but I wouldn’t be saying that if I won ;o)

Yes, echoing the congrats for the Bloggies - a sure fire winner.

And my 2cents: as a 1 time chronic sufferrer, all I can say is apples, carrots, water over soda drink and nasal spray.

Eh, maybe that’s what this annoying cold is. I never considered hay fever, I thought it was just a bug going around the dorms or something. I’ll have to give apples and carrots a try. Oh, and congrats on the Bloggie. :-)

Something you can do now, Jeremy, is to gently cleanse your sinuses with a mild saline solution. The yogis have done this for centuries using neti pots. But there are also some more modern ways now. Here’s a short article about it with a few additional links.

I have used this method and it has helped. And no drugs. Let me know if you want additional information.

Sinusitis spray is dangerous , if we often use it, it will be getting worse and worse than before. Also using all over the counter products are the same. It works only in the beginning and soon we get side effects. The best way to get rid of hay fever and all the other allergies are using correct natural herbs.

Personally for me saline solution (recommended by Jeff) and acupuncture are enough to do the trick!

I do not suffer from hayfever at all now! I used to be terrible but I found that by reducing my intake of fizzy drinks, coffee and chocolate to absolute zero was the answer. Coffee is the worst culprit for me, followed by closely be coca cola. When you think about it - it makes sense. Caffeine is a very strong drug - it stimulates and heightens the sensitivity of the nervous system. This will not work straight away, but a quick test to see if it will is to have a coffee and see if your nose starts to run. If it does then it is well worth giving this cure a go.
