Stochastic lullaby

Over the winter we had an astonishingly good run of weather — it seemed like 10 weeks of unbroken sunshine (and it would have been unbroken but for the night every day). Recently the rain has returned, and sitting here just now I was struck by how I’ve missed the sound of the rain on the roof. I’m already imagining turning in and being able to drift to sleep to the sweetest lullaby there is.

It’s like a friend returning after a long absence. You got on fine without them but now that you see them again, you realise you missed them more you thought you did, and in a way that might never have been revealed to you had not the absence come to an end.

One of the things I miss most living with another apartment above me.

And why I love my metal roof.

This post gave me chills. I’m happy to have the rain back as well; I am frequently tempted to hit the sack early, just to go to sleep to it.
