I guess I don’t see that one as cliché. I guess I have to figure out what I mean by cliché before I go spoutning comments around :)
Or maybe it’s that you have again turned something that could be cliché, such as a lantern, which looks really cool, exotic, and traditional, and draws many people to take photos of it, into something more original.
I think what I meant by cliché was taking a photo of a temple just for the temple’s sake, or in this instance, a lantern just because the lantern itself is cool. This photo however, is not a photo of a lantern. If both the lantern AND reflection were not there, you would never have thought to take the photo, so I don’t consider this a photo of a lantern.
In the same way, your previous photo of the temple was not a photo of a temple, it was a photo of the temple in that exact light. You wouldn’t have taken the photo two hours earlier.
When I said I tried to stay away from cliché photos, I basically was saying that although I look at a temple or lantern and feel “Wow that really looks cool” unless I can find some extra-ordinary situation I am not satisfied with shooting the most obviously “cool” looking subject.
That being said, I have taken my fare share of cherry-blossom shots this last week, and a couple of trite “temples with blossoms”. Most of which wont show up on my site, but don’t be suprised to see some cliché from me too. ;)
