Ivy decorated with a sprig of house

Just a block away from the main shopping street down a side street I’d never walked before, I found the ivy-est house I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure whether this is a house bedecked with ivy or an ivy plant that decided it needed a house. I strongly suspect the latter.
The ivy should start greening soon and I’ll report back on how things develop through the spring. I’d love a 7-month timelapse movie starting now and finishing in October, but that might be a little hard to organise.

Haha. Brilliant! Yeah, a timelapse movie could be great, but hard work. I wonder if the ivy has relatives that will come over for garden-parties during the summer?

Not ivy. Virginia creeper, possibly. Will be red/orange in September. Should be very good photo.

ooh - is this in Jingumae/Sendagaya? I think I know where that house is.. or at least I know a very similar one.

jo —- In Japanese it’s tsuta (蔦) which my dictionary just gives as “ivy” (although there must be various kinds as you suggest) Sorry I can’t provide a more interesting name like Virginia Creeper (which I’d never heard before).
Tracey —- It’s good old Kyodo. There must be quite a few places becoming one with the vegetation, though. If I had a hundred yen for every old house covered with ivy, why, I’d be able to afford that old house covered with ivy I’ve had my eye on.
I wonder if there’s some equation happens whereby at first the ivy weakens the wood but eventually becomes strong enough to support the house?

I think I can top it.. A house not far from my home (Aobadai) becomes nearly invisible in August under the vines. I was sure it was abandoned, as the front door (and walkway to it) is unaccessible/unusable thru the foliage.
Low and behold, a hole has been cut over the winter for some natural light to access a window, and a light was on.
I will forward when appropriate..
