I’m trying to clean up and get organised around here. Throwing away old photographs. This is the storage shed on the main playing field at the ag. school.

That’s amazing! The colours and lines are so eye-catching… I wonder if the painters/groundsmen actually have an acute aesthetic sensibility and made it that way just for our visual pleasure?

Nah, it’s like that bit in American Beauty where the guy with the camera is showing the video of a bag floating in the wind to his girlfriend. He says he sees beauty in so many different things, he can hardly take it all in. So there is beauty all around us, but most of us are too busy to see it. Jeremy clearly isn’t.

Come to think of it, this picture looks rather like the ‘golden rectangle’ images (you know, the one with the spiral interposed in the middle). Although it doesn’t parallel the exact 9:3:1 ratio, it looks quite friendly to the eye nonetheless.

The Golden Ratio, right?

I’m not really sure if this divides up that way — I may have been subliminally trying for that but it wasn’t conscious. If anything I think this picture shows the dangers of trying too hard, of thinking about composition too much. There’s got to be a way to honour these lines a little more loosely….
