Some, er … holidays
Comments: 5
Here we are at the tail-end of the hottest summer on record about to squeeze what was to be a week’s holiday out of the remains of August (it’s only going to be 3 days for me: I’m coming back early for work) and the temperature has plummeted, clouds shroud the land, and the forecast is for 3 days of rain.
Why does this not surprise me?
We’re going to Takayama, an old town in Gifu Prefecture famous for its carpenters and the buildings they made, lacquer-ware, and beef (Mmmm … beef!). With any luck this trip will pull me out of a photographic slump in which I’ve found myself recently. Given the forecast, I predict I’ll be doing a lot of thinking in black and white. I’m glad I didn’t shell out for Kodachrome yesterday.

I look forward to seeing your shots. I went to Takayama last week and had a blast. The weather wasn’t great and I spent more time taking bad pictures with my new 50mm 1.8 than good, but it’s a gorgeous spot.

Have fun in Takayama. It is my favourite part of Japan and one of the few places i could actually retire in. I always get back there at least twice a year. Be sure to try the Tofu Restaurant in the Old Area. Its amazing.

I went to Takayama back in March of 2003 and had a great time. It is one of my favorite places in Japan and is a great place to take photos. Have fun!
