Hosannah in the highest! I had heard a rumor that Barebones was no longer developing BBEdit… Is this not true? If not, then I will hold a small party at my house to celebrate.

Oh obviously you had seen it. Sorry for the wated e-mail.

Wheeeee! I confess I don’t use BBEdit all the time, but man, when I use it I’m usually sitting there thanking the heavens for it. Tis there I learned about the wonders of GREP. Saved my butt more than a few times! Since I was legitimately sharing a license for awhile I may have to buckle down and buy my own this time and it will be money well spent.

Good news! I found I had my OWN licensed copy. Going off to get the upgrade right away!

This may sound a little geeky.. but IMHO VIM ( VI-Improved, www.vim.org ) is still the best text editor for nearly everything. Though not very user-friendly in the beginning, but if you get to know it, it starts looking handsome and smart! ;-) And, it’s free! So, if you want to give it a try once, don’t forget to peek at the vimbook (also available as pdf).
Now please don’t flame me for being O.T. or for advertising some product - I don’t know BBEdit and I won’t be able to use it until they have a Linux version :-D

No Subversion support. Ouch! What the hell is Perforce SCM??

Perforce SCM is a commercial source code management package that is reasonably popular among large developers, such as BEA, Sun, Palm, Macromedia, SGI, etc.
If you’re the type of developer that would spend money for a text editor, presumably you are not averse to spending money on SCM as well, so there’s probably a decent pent-up demand for Perforce support in BBEdit.
