The danger to political dissent is acute

Let the eagle soar indeed. The quote from a Surpreme Court ruling that the Justice Department apparently does not want anyone to see:
The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect ‘domestic security.’ Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent.

Looks like our country is debating a law that will allow phone and email tapping without a court order. This means the Police will have the right to tap any phone or email without having to justify the reason to an independant authority.
Surely that makes my domicile more secure…. NOT.
This direction that Australia, US and the UK (I think) is taking is just a little scarey. I read of people stopped and checked before hopping on public transport, fine I say, then you read that their reading material is unsuitable ( http://www.boingboing.net/2004/08/11/ddbookreaderonfe.html) and should not be allowed on the ferry.
