The Japan Photography list lives on
Yesterday a rather strange thing happened over at the Japan Photography mailing list. One of the administrators just … melted down. He locked the other admin out of the list, closed it to its subscribers, and then — why not!? — deleted the whole thing, including a year’s worth of archives.
Way to go.
When people implode in public like that, it’s always embarrassing. But when they do it so destructively, well, you have to feel for them. What one feels is perhaps best left unsaid, mind you, but gratitude is a big part of it in this case because the list is now on much firmer footing.
You just can’t keep a good community down, and within minutes the list had a new home (members are currently deciding the long-term arrangements). If you found yourself unceremoniously dumped from the list yesterday, join the club! You can re-subscribe here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/japanphoto/
You can also send mail to “japanphoto-subscribe [at symbol] yahoogroups.com” and sign up that way.
That the list was up and running again so quickly is really a nice testament to how much bigger it is than any single bloated ego. It’s lucky to count as members some extremely knowledgeable and experienced and generous people. If you’re interested in photography in Japan, pay the list a visit.
