Japanese Fanta commercial that never made it to air

A dear friend sent me a package from America yesterday and in it were a couple of CDs full of interesting things he’s found to watch and listen to. One of the CDs contained this terrific Japanese commercial for Fanta which (somewhat surprisingly) didn’t seem to make it to air here.

I guess he recorded this from some US TV show featuring weird ads from around the world. The laughter from the audience is a bit distracting, but the ad itself is a scream. Not exactly a ‘high concept’ piece, but the execution is faultless.

My laptop refused to play the clip, but I recognize it from the vidcap. I’m surprised to hear the commercial wasn’t aired in Japan, because I saw it a number of times on TV in Taiwan while I was living there. Definitely original!

that was played on australian tv for a while. except the can was replaced with a bottle.

cool ad. there is another one with a japanese couple at the beach. the girlfriend is jumping up and down as the boyfriend shakes up a fanta bottle to spray at her. he misses but the spray flies across the sea and destroys an island in a massive explosion. neat.
