TokyoArtBeat

What is it with Tokyo lately? Anyone would think it’s like one of the world’s most interesting cities or something. TokyoArtBeat launched October 1 to track shows and events in the art, design, film, and — importantly — art party and opening events world. The site publishes in English and Japanese and bills itself as an art and design amplifier. By the look of it, it goes up to 11.

It’s a very well put together site. A brilliant touch is that each listing contains one of those little square information blotches you can scan with your mobile phone to instantly download a map to the event location (QR codes, which I think stands for “quite remarkable”). There are also maps for less mobile computers and well-written directions for finding places.

Bravo!

And with your W21S (which I have too) I am sure that you ll appreciate how the link is offering to take you straight into Naviwalk instead of the normal Navitime static map… you can even have it show you the directions to it… hehehe and you can also view the whole site on your mobile (because it is a recent one), so next time you have 30 mins to kill in Aoyama… you know where to start… ;-) Enjoy.

Seeing the TokyoArtBeat site made me wonder: how is your Japanese? Is a basic command of the Japanese language necessary to live one’s life in this country? I wouldn’t mind at all stories about the ‘blending-in’ efforts and experience of an Australian in Japan.

Hello, I have been coming to your blog for 4 months now, really like your point of view. Check out www.vritti.net …. I have been running a blog/photoblog too for 14-15 months and it is in it’s 4th version. The photos – I have in the past had a proper photoblog, used deviantart and fotki. This time around I am actually trying something new, which is inherent in the site template (thanks to binarybonsai.com) – the headers. Whenever I take photos, I always try to capture one unique aspect of the photo, but am bound by the physical restraints of the CCD to get the surrounding bits as well. Now finally I can focus on the bits I like and have put them up as header images, which will be generated randomly upon ever visit. As of now, I have 110 up, that will go up by 10-15 every week I think (I hope..).

Hope to see you on my blog too. abhi
