Real Gone

On a spur of the moment visit to a record store yesterday I found the new Tom Waits album Real Gone. I don’t listen to nearly enough contemporary music, but Waits is one artist that has never disappointed.
If you’re in Antwerp, it’s probably too late to get tickets to the Bourla Theatre to see Waits tonight. You probably won’t have any better luck to catch shows Monday and Tuesday nights in Berlin at the Theatre Des Westerns, come to mention it.
How about Tokyo, Tom — why not us? We’d love to have to you.

Yes, why not? Isn't he supposed to be Big in Japan? ;-)

Bwa-ha-ha-ha,
I'd recommend moving heaven and earth to see him should he be coming within 500km from your home. I was lucky enough to stumble into a ticket, quite literally, to one of his Vancouver shows last month. Been a huge Tom Waits fan since highschool (Franks Wild Years-ish), and had never before been able to acquire a ticket to see him.
Even with 15+ years of anticipation, he did not disappoint. One of the truly great performers of our time. :)

A few weeks ago, when I was still working at the international music retail chain that shall remain nameless, the new Waits album was playing over the PA on a Sunday morning (yes, seriously) and a South African gentleman approached the counter to ask if it was, in fact, the new Tom Waits album, to which I nodded in affirmation, before commenting: "I'm just waiting for Rod Stewart to cover this one." I scored a big laugh with that one ;o)

Mind you, his Berlin shows are not exactly on the cheap side of things: roughly AU$120 if I recall correctly.
Wasn't there a time when the avant-garde was still free and for free ?

Tom's a god. Martha still brings a tear to my eye.
Have you grabbed Nick Cave's new double album "Abatoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus" yet? Another amazing record.

"Real Gone" is really, really good; agreed.
If there was a way to turn artists immortal, mr Waits should be one of the first in line…

It's like he combined the best of Bone Machine and Mule Variations and employed the best best 'drum n' bass' combo in the world, (claypool and brain), and then hired a unicorn to crap out a rainbow inside my brain!
