Not me too

Is it just me, or is the U2 edition of the iPod kind of ugly?

Apple really stikes out with this one. I never thought one of their products could look so terrible.

Absolutely, I was afraid of saying it out loud.
The video for the ad is kind of nice (iTunes -> music store -> videos) though. Zeldman in motion with a U2 soundtrack, what else can one ask for?

strangely, I found it more appealing in person than in the photos. The red is not so orangey looking in real life. It is certainly targetted though at the U2 folks. The black is very very shiny which makes it all look very slick in a liquid sort of way.

if it was JUST black itd be much nicer

yeah, poor choice to go with the red and black combo. trying to remember if I've seen that mix done well on anything.

I like it – but I like the suave look of the all white one better.

Tokyogoat: The first time I saw the U2Pod it made me think of these shoes:

I don't like the look. It would be a bit better if the lettering on the wheel was black, not white, and if the silver back was also black. Then you could ask yourself "how much blacker can this get?" … Any Spinal Tap fan can fill in the answer.

I don't really have an opinion either way (don't hate it, but it doesn't turn me on, either), but I do like Greg Storey's description: it looks like the A-Team Van.

It looks like the A-Team van.

haha, well it's definitely a preference.
I prefer my all white 4g version but I think the U2 version is a sweet look. Definitely more for a select audience, with the white version having a wide audience appeal.

I'd be tempted by a Yes one: "Close to the Edge" green fading to sea blue with the Yes logo on the back as well as the sigs. Ugly, but sentimental.
Perhaps this is the Wal-Martizing of the Apple aesthetic. Isn't it the same as band T-shirts and gimme caps?

Aye, and I think its the red scrollywheelythingy that does it. That said, I can't quite picture it in pure black so I don't if that'd work either. I guess it'd just blend in with the countless ipod copies in that guise too.

It's the cheery bright blue screen which clashes with the slick black and red. Had they used a screen with red text on black, it would click (so to speak).
