New Yorker cover by Adrian Tomine
I was glad to see a New Yorker cover by Adrian Tomine recently. I’m by no means widely read in comics (R. Crumb was the gateway artist, of course, George Herriman is an earlier master, Ben Katchor and Chris Ware have both done amazing things) but I’ve always liked Tomine’s work. 32 Stories is a collection of the Optic Nerve comics from 1991 to ‘94 presented chronologically (you can see him develop a really masterful control of line and black ink). His other books are Scrapbook, Sleepwalk and Other Stories, and Summer Blonde.
