Have I mentioned before that Japanese woodworking is unequalled? Perhaps just once or twice. This is a transom piece from an old house I visited back in the summer.

We’ve a couple of Japanese pieces carefully displayed on the side board. We’ve also a very nice view from living room. Most visitors will look at the Japanese pieces, not the view.
I wonder what kind of rotor bits they use; )

I’ll never understand it. Do you people get hired to be exposed to beauty, or do you steal yourselves in?

This was in an old, historical landmark-type house in Takayama open to the public. No forced entry required!

It’s not a matter of being exposed to beauty, because everything is beautiful in it’s own way (to misquote an old song)—it’s about having the insight to notice beauty and the skill to present it.

that is absolutely beautiful, and I bet the photo doesn’t even do it justice. Japanese artistry is one of my favourites.
