Let the panic begin

Countdown to departure. In a week my daughter and I will be flying to Australia for Christmas with the family (my wife will be spending Christmas night in the air and joining us on Boxing Day, when we will show up at the airport at six o’goddamned’clock in the morning to collect her). There’s a week to deal with a load of stuff at work, finish buying presents (next year, I swear, Christmas shopping begins in February), try to tidy up the house so I’m not thrown into an instant funk upon return, swim the 800m freestyle in a race on Sunday, attend an end-of-year party, try to get a broadband connection happening at my folks’ place, and pack.

We’ll see.

I’m just looking forward to that moment when you take your seat on a plane and only then truly realise that there is nothing more that can be done: forgotten things must simply be left behind and unfinished things can wait until the first crusts of salt from the Indian Ocean have been washed from your already sunburned body.

Can you hire a limo/driver to meet your wife at the airport? That would be so terribly civilised for everyone. You can have a lovely breakfast waiting for her at the house. Yes, yes, yes.

At least that makes one of us who gets home to Perth for Xmas.

Enjoy Jeremy. Wishing the best for you and yours.

A limo on Boxing day in Perth = 10 Million Gazillion Dollars ;p

And I’m hardly joking.

Perhaps, but is family harmony and a lie-in on Boxing Day worth 10 million gazillion dollars?

In the interest of thorough research, I got a quote. It’s only (?) $140 for a limo from the airport to the Hedley estate at 6 am on Boxing Day.

That’s a 9 million gazillion 8 hundred 60 dollar discount off the usual price. :-)

I hear you! While extremely sad that my next flight will not be returning anytime soon, I too feel the allure of the airplane seat. Have a great trip and will be reading you from afar but hungrier than ever in 2005.

Ahhh, Xmas on the beach. Now that’s a religious experience!

Hmm, do expect some delays at OZ international airports. Luggage and passengers are screened rather thoroughly now, and getting out of airports has become yet another ordeal of international travel. For some reason I also always tend to arrive (as do any visiting friends) and 5.20am Melbourne time. Happy festive season to you :)
