Dial-up, great whites, and drill-powered beer pumps
Comments: 10
Back to the land of dial-up in a couple of days. A friend of the family has broadband and I expect I’ll be paying regular visits (yoroshiku, Kathy!). Also back to a sea of sharks — a 4.5 metre great white took a young fellow off a beach in Adelaide recently as he was being towed behind a boat on a board (his family, the gods bless them, rightly urged against the killing of the shark). I heard on the phone from Western Australia tonight that a large school of sharks (a gang of sharks? A murder of sharks?) was photographed from the air in the southern part of the state. Didn’t get the exact location but they were “big things, and lots of them.”
And of course Perth is now the town of the electric drill-powered beer pump, straight into the gut (which ruptured, naturally: the guy ended up in intensive care but lived, in a lucky reversal of Darwinism). My country, yes. Remind me not to do this.

group of sharks is called a shiver.

Do beware of that shiver of sharks but have a great time dipping your toes, nose, and the whole rest of you in the ocean.

A shiver of sharks is as fitting of a title as a murder of crows - you just feel like that’s what a group of the beasts should be addressed as.

the brave soul who risked life and limb for a beer should have looked up headmasterbeerpump .com and saved himself a lot of pain

Sharks swim around in courthouses. As in, “A courthouse of sharks”. A firm of sharks P.A.
