The way of the brush

Yesterday I visited a couple of friends for a working lunch (that segued, as these things do, into an evening of fine dining). Kevin gave me a tour of the house and showed me Kumiko’s studio. I couldn’t resist taking this picture of the floor, presented here I should say with permission of the artist. :-)
As well as being an accomplished musician (koto), Kumiko is a very talented calligrapher. Her Japanese work is stunning, and it turns out that her roman lettering is every bit as good.
She’ll be exhibiting at Good Honest Grub in Ebisu next month so if you’re anywhere near there, I’d thoroughly recommend a visit. I’ll post again with more details once everything’s finalised.

Caligraphy is a great form of medition as well as art. But one doesn't need to paint Kanji - you can have fun with latin characters as well. ;-)
