Comments: some tweaking

If I believed in heaven, and thought I would go there when I die, my idea of it right now would be me with a high-voltage cattle prod and a 9mm pistol standing before all the spammers of the world. They would be kneeling in a dusty courtyard, already tearful and bloody from savage beatings, and then it would be my turn.
I’m not by nature a violent person at all, but it’s come to this. As Saddam Hussein said in the South Park movie, “I can change. Look at me, I’m changing!”
I’m trying a tweak or two here to try to restore some equilibrium. Sincere thanks to Yoz Grahame for some ideas.

If it’s mailbox spam you’re talking about (i.e. not comment spam), then I highly recommend Death2Spam:
http://death2spam.net/index.html
I’ve been using it about a year now, and it’s worth the price, whatever it was. (I’ve forgotten.) My statistics page there tells me I get about 66% spam. About 2 or 3 a week get through the filters into my mailbox. They used to have a month free trial, and the only problem with that is that once you’ve lived wtihout spam for a month you’re hooked, and have no option but to pay up.
I don’t get anything from referrals, I don’t think. Just a happy customer.

Badaunt —- It’s comment spam, I’m afraid. I’m plagued by this far more severely than e-mail spam (which I rarely see).
My ISP does filtering which seems to work very well (no false positives so far) and they tag any suspect mail so that I can then filter against it locally.
Plus I’m using Apple’s Mail app which doesn’t do a bad job of filtering spam itself.

I have had very good luck with SpamSieve on my iMac for email spam.
However, the comment spam on my blog has been much more of a problem. I’ve been getting tons of it lately and it’s really a pain. If it’s any consolation, I feel your pain. ;)

And then, when they are breaking down at gunpoint, you’d say…
“I pardon you”

no pardon.
If they´re breaking, force them to play roulette with the gun like in “The Deer Hunter”…

This is what some blogs now use
Note to spammers: This comment system applies the rel=nofollow attribute to the poster’s URL and all links. Posting links to this page will not improve their search engine rankings.
It’s a new google addition, I believe. Good luck, though. Aggravating stuff. Spam is absolute blockage in a life where we wish for free flow…

@steff I agree with you. But as google takes notice of the quantity of backlinks and does not take notice about good content, google inspires the spammers
