ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Hunter S. Thompson, the acerbic counterculture writer who popularized a new form of journalism in books like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, fatally shot himself Sunday night at his Aspen-area home, his son said. He was 67.

I woke up this morning and a friend in Britain emailed me with this news. Completely threw off my entire day. I've been sitting at work for a couple hours and haven't had the motivation to do anything.
Ironic that we all learn the news on Presidents' Day…
