Gomma

gomma.jpgGomma is a new independent photographic magazine that showcases international photographers. Published in the UK and available everywhere, the magazine is funded by grants and donations and doesn’t run advertising. Issue 1 is being printed now.

I quite like the website, but it takes forever to download and Flash means I can’t link to directly to an order page when I say something like “Issue 1 is being printed now.” It’s quite beautiful to look at though, and I love the Goreyesque wallpaper.

Luca Desienna, the art director, kindly wrote to let me know about it, so I’ve been keeping an eye out. Today the announcement postcard arrived, along with e-mail pointing to the website. I’ll say this for the magazine; it knows how to synchronise its communication.

The postcard features the work of Max Reeves and there’s some more astonishing work from him on the website (fix yourself a drink while it downloads: it’s worth the wait). The other contributors look brilliant as well.

Congratulations to everyone at Gomma on the launch. Here’s to many years of publishing great work.

That’s it? How can that one single photograph on its cover of a skinny guy flexing his muscles make me want to rush out to the stores and get one? They could have at least “allowed” us to browse through some pages…
