Sacred Bridge

Got away to Nikko last weekend with a couple of friends. We didn’t do the Nikko extravaganza sightseeing thing, preferring to scramble along riverbanks and aquaducts on an impromptu tour of Japan’s oldest hydroelectric system (who knew hydroelectrics can be quaint?) but here’s a shot of a Nikko landmark, the Shinkyo, or sacred bridge which dates in its present form from 1676 and in legend from 767.
There’s a link to a larger version here.

Another beauty. The framing is wonderful.

Wow— great picture. When did shinkyo reopen? Hasn’t that bridge been under wraps (or at least obscured by scaffolding & hoarding) for ages?

Very nice. I’ve never walked on the bridge; I’ve been to Nikko dozens of times (used to live in Tochigi) but those were all during the “still fixing the thing up” phase.

Wow… deja vu. I was there in early March and it was open but looked as though it had only just been (some scaffolding still around). Managed to snap an average shot, that had to be resurected in Photoshop.
Such a beautiful area around there.
