Have any definitive histories of window dressing and shop manequins been written? There must be a couple of medium-sized photographic surveys from Taschen.

As a voracious reader of all aspects of the history of fashion, I don’t think I’ve ever come across an authorative guide to window dressing and displays, but I DO have a copy of this rather delightful read by Simon Doonan called Confessions of a Window Dresser. Doonan art directs and created the window displays for Barneys New York, and spent a period in the ’80s working with the inimitable Diana Vreeland. His shop windows from the ’70s in London have to be seen to be believed!
