One-Minute Vacation
Comments: 6
One-minute vacations are unedited recordings of somewhere, somewhen. Sixty seconds of something else. Sixty seconds to be someone else.
Quiet American (great name!) presents one-minute vacation, an astonishing collection of one-minute recordings from around the world courtesy of Aaron Ximm. CD-Rs are available, but how cool is it to be told “that I am open to barter, and that you are welcome to make your own CDs from the MP3s on this site”?
Aaron got in touch about a heating oil recording here (to which he’s very welcome) and all I can say is that I wish I’d known about Quiet American long ago. What a brilliant site. There’s a good interview with Aaron at erasing clouds.

Now that’s a great idea for a web site! Love the bell chimes’ one. Now, I need to bring a tape recorder along to a Miami Dolphins’ game when they play the Jets.

Great site, and the interview does a good job of laying out the motivations and ambitions of the artist. Listening to those sound samples was one of the most unexpectedly profound experiences I’ve had on this world wide interweb. I kept thinking that this would make a great episode of This American Life on NPR here in the States.

Love the one-minute vacations, and will probably buy the CD. Thanks for the link.

More linkage for your listening pleasure: Quiet American was mentioned along with some other audio blogs a couple months ago here on NPR.
