Sponsors’ lanterns

lanterns_20050710_01_sm.jpg

Prior to my town’s summer festival the names of the local businesses which have kicked in to sponsor it are displayed on lanterns hung ouside the station (the main shopping street is hung with red and white lanterns). Bigger version here.

It’s always your blog that makes me miss Japan the most. Lovely.

Funny how the lanterns look exotic and evocative if one doesn’t read Japanese. But I guess they are the equivalent of banners and signs at a local summer festival reading “USBank” or “Microsoft” or whichever corporation might be sponsoring.

I’ve seen a few but this is one of the best photos of Japanese lanterns I’ve seen.
